Intrinsic Parameters of GRB990123 from Its Prompt Optical Flash and Afterglow

چکیده
We have constrained the intrinsic parameters, such as the magnetic energy density fraction (ǫB), the electron energy density fraction (ǫe), the initial Lorentz factor (Γ0) and the Lorentz factor of the reverse external shock (Γrs), of GRB990123, in terms of the afterglow information (forward shock model) and the optical flash information (reverse shock model). Our result shows: 1) the inferred values of ǫe and ǫB are consistent with the suggestion that they may be universal parameters, comparing to those inferred for GRB970508; 2) the reverse external shock may have become relativistic before it passed through the ejecta shell. Other instrinsic parameters of GRB990123, such as energy contained in the forward shock E and the ambient density n are also determined and discussed in this paper.

With the successful launch of the Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Explorer, people expected the prompt optical flash like GRB990123 would be easily detected. However the fact that early optical flash have not been detected for a number of GRBs indicates the reverse shock must be suppressed. Here we explore the possibility that the optical flash may arise from the internal shock. We find that, under certa...

With the successful launch of the Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Explorer, it is widely expected that the prompt optical flashes like GRB990123 would be easily detected. However, the observations show that for a number of GRBs no early optical flash has been detected, which indicates that the reverse shock emission must be suppressed. Here we explore the possibility that the optical flash may arise from...

The degree and the temporal evolution of linear polarization in the prompt and afterglow emission of gamma-ray bursts is a very robust diagnostic of some key features of gamma-ray bursts jets and their micro and macro physics. In this contribution, I review the current status of the theory of polarized emission from GRB jets during the prompt, optical flash, and afterglow emission. I compare th...

Recent observations of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have provided growing evidence for collimated outflows and emission, and strengthened the connection between GRBs and supernovae. If massive stars are the progenitors of GRBs, the hard photon pulse will propagate in the pre-burst, dense environment. Circumstellar material will Compton scatter the prompt GRB radiation and give rise to a reflection e...

The standard afterglow model neglects the presence of the GRB prompt radiation ahead of the blast wave. In fact, the blast wave is dramatically influenced by the leading gamma-ray front which preaccelerates the ambient medium and loads it with electron-positron pairs. The front sweeps the medium outward with a high Lorentz factor and results in a spectacular effect: the GRB ejecta moves freely ...
